When it comes to eye care, there are two main categories to choose from - gel and cream. Each has their own perks to offer skin. If you’re not sure if you need to use an eye cream or an eye gel, here’s a short guide to help.

Eye Gel vs. Eye Cream

One place to start is with your skin type. Oily and combination skin people tend to prefer the lighter, oil-free texture of gel skin care products - and an eye care product would be no exception. Using eye care that’s too heavy for your skin could also cause milia.

Another thing to consider is if you want to use an eye care product in the daytime or at night. A gel is great for daytime use because the texture is so light. Nothing is stopping you from using gel for both - however, cream has a better texture for night time use.

Fun fact - skin tends to be drier at night and needs more moisture. That’s why skincare formulated for nighttime use tends to be creamier and heavier! Gel is better suited for daytime use to prep and prime your undereye area for makeup.

Eye Gel vs. Eye Gel Mask

Eye gels actually differ from eye masks - under eye patches or masks are slippery hydrogel cutouts, rather than a gel that sinks into the skin. If you want something absorbs into the skin, go for an eye gel. Mask products are only designed to sit on the skin for a short amount of time - great for a once a week treat, but not something that you’d necessarily want to use every day.
