6 Best Travel Beauty Tips
International travel might still be on the far horizon, but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped travelling, period. With summer coming up, it’s looking like we can travel for Christmas and the New Year - woohoo!
Now, I don’t know about you but my priority when I travel is travelling light and avoiding any messy surprises when I unpack. If that sounds like you, here are my favourite 6 travel beauty tips for maximising space in your bags and making your beauty routine spill-proof!
1. Pack a Solid Makeup Remover
In this case, we mean literally a solid makeup remover. A balm cleanser or a cream cleanser fits the bill - these are great for travel as you don’t need to worry about their contents exploding all over the rest of your clothes.
How to use one is easy, too - take a little bit of balm and massage over your skin, ensuring the oils in it break down any makeup from the day. If you must, you can use a makeup wipe after - but most of the time, you won’t need to. Balm cleansers are formulated to rinse off with just water.
2. Use a Powder Cleanser
Another way to spill-proof your beauty bag is by bringing a powder cleanser. All you need to do is add water and they create a foam that’s just as good (sometimes better) than your regular old gel cleanser.
They work double duty as exfoliants, too - just add a little bit of water to create an exfoliating paste, or use more water to dilute the granules for a much gentler, but no less thorough cleanse.
Declaré Soft Cleansing Powder | $45
Cleansing powder is one of the easiest ways to travel-proof your routine.
3. Use This Contact Lens Case Hack
You can still bring your favourite night and day creams with this super easy hack that I’ve been using for years. Seriously, I love this one for making sure that I don’t have too much weight in my baggage - I use some empty contact lens cases for my moisturiser. You’d be surprised how much product you can actually fit in a couple of contact lens cases - i’ve gotten a week’s use out of them, and then some.
L'Occitane Immortelle Divine Creme | $152
You don't have to leave all your favourite products at home, like this luxe night cream from L'Occitane.
4. Opt for Tinted Lip Balm
A sheer wash of colour is one of my favourite travel beauty secrets and it’s one that a lot of people underestimate. Here’s the thing - when you’re travelling, what do you want to be focussed on - how YOU look, or what you’re experiencing right now, wherever in the world you might be? Tinted lip balms mean you can have the best of both - I promise.
A tinted lip balm helps to bring a whole look together, without the high maintenance that you’d need for a fully pigmented lipstick - they bring a wash of colour to your lips that’s a touch more elegant than bare lips, yet they’re super fuss-free and you don’t need a mirror for touch-ups.
Dior Addict Lip Glow Lip Balm | $52
Tinted lip balm is created to moisturise and add a bit of colour to your lips, completing your makeup look.
5. Bring Multi-Purpose Makeup
Multi-purpose products will be your saviour when travelling - and you’d be surprised how, for example, just one face palette makes it look like you’ve brought your entire makeup stash. A face palette with a bronzer, blusher, and highlighter will go a long way to creating pretty versatile makeup looks - you just might surprise yourself with what you can do.
Another multi-purpose makeup product can be a creme blush - you can use a creme blush as eyeshadow, blush and lip colour for a monochrome look. It goes both ways too, you can use your sheer lip balm (from above!) as a blush for a little touch of colour.
